I did my masters in English in India. I want to do my MS in IT now. How do I proceed further and what do I need to do now? I have my EAD. Do I need to do any computer courses in a community college? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!

Thank you so much. Yes, I came here on a dependant visa after resigning from a job at LIC of India. So I am trying to figure out what to do next. As you suggested I'll try to contact colleges for further guidance. I am not sure about IT consultants either. Thanks.

I came here for my masters after writing GRE and TOEFL. I changed from one engineering field to another. I was first asked to take extra bachelor's courses because I tried to switch fields. But later my University waived it as I was able to convince them.
If I assume correctly you are here on a dependent visa. Many of my friends who came here after their marriage are doing their masters but in fields related to their bachelors.
But I do know some community colleges are not very strict with admission criteria. Try calling the graduate advisors of IT departments in your desired colleges. They will be able to give you a list of documents/ qualifications you may need to get admissions. The other route is contacting IT consultants who will give you 6 months training/ certification and help you get placed in a related IT project. But this is not advisable as some IT consultants are considered fraudulent and it is pretty tough to spot them.

Thank you dp dp for your valuable suggestions. I heard of a lady who did masters in psychology in India and did her MS in IT at ISU with taking an ACT test, But not able to contact her. Do you have any idea what the prerequisites will be ? Who do I contact to know? Is it for a job or further suggestions I have to contact an IT consultant?

Sunita, I don't know if you can do that with a bachelors in English. May be you can take certificate courses. When you apply for a masters they will see if you have pre-requisites for that particular degree. If you don't then they may ask you to take them in addition to your graduate courses. Since you have an EAD I think it will be better if you talk to a desi IT consultancy. I think a professional MBA will be a better bet.
